When it comes to Facebook and privacy it seems like the two have had somewhat of a turbulent history together, from the early days of updating security features to recent reports of future employers wanting to gain access to potential employee profiles.

The most recent from the folks at Facebook is a new privacy update which will allow all of its 845 million members (roughly) the ability to download an archive of their Facebook history.

“Starting today, you will be able to download an expanded archive of your Facebook account history,” it says on the Facebook Privacy Page.
“Download Your Information lets you get a copy of what you’ve shared on Facebook, such as photos. Now you can access additional categories of information, including previous names, friend requests you’ve made and IP addresses you logged in from.
“This feature will be rolling out gradually to all users and more categories of information will be available for download in the future. Download Your Information is available from your Facebook Account Settings.”
The tool, Download your Information, was originally released in 2010 and allowed the social network users to keep copies of the things they were sharing with their friends. It has however, just been expanded on in a move that looks to reassure its members, regulators and certain advocacy groups who are concerned about the amount of control and privacy Facebook has over its members personal information.
Experts predict that with the recent acquisition on Instagram, the Californian based social networking giant now have the ability to gain access to even more personal information, making it easier for advertisers and marketers to gain access to the same personal information. Instagram provides information like image locations, other social networks and places the visited, this sort of information could be worth up to $4900 per user to marketers yearly.
